Installing Laconica

This page is the result of a request to try and help with creating a set of easy to follow instructions for getting Laconica installed. I’ll do my best to achieve this goal but am thankful of any comments that will lead towards making this easier to understand and follow.

The Requirements

PHP 5.2.x

1. Curl
2. MySQL
3. XMLWriter
4. mbstring
5. gettext

MySQL 5.x

That’s the basic rundown of the absolute minimum (to my understanding) that you need to get an install of laconica running! Now if your hosting provider has all these requirements it shouldn’t be the most difficult thing to get laconica installed and running.

Gimme Installer

Until the laconica installer works smoothly I’ll be recommending the use of my installer which can be downloaded here: http://www.gimmesoda.com/laconica_installer.zip

Just download, unzip, and upload to your hosting provider then run the gimme_install.php file. Don’t run the install.php file that comes with laconica! Unless you are looking to install using the default installer. I’ve had my share of trouble with it.

My installer will ask you a few very basic details for the install and hopefully a few seconds after you click the button, you’ll have a functioning laconica install. If not… well check the error messages you get – if you are missing a basic requirement then I recommend finding a compatible hosting provider.

If there is an error with the installer please send it to me and I’ll take a look at getting it fixed! Beyond that if you really need help getting the software installed I can get it working for you (if your host meets the requirements) for a small fee.
