Updating the Laconica Installer Again…

I really got to get an easier way to detect if there are any newer versions of laconica… in any case while I work out that problem I’d just like to report that the newest update to the installer should be out tomorrow. It does work smoothly with the newest 0.7.1 version – which btw is an awesome update (0.7.x) by the people over Control Yourself, Inc., and all the devs working on this project!

I’ll be putting out the newly updated code tomorrow as I’ve got a few bug fixes to finish up.

It took me awhile to get it all sorted but all known bugs have been taken care of and the script seems to be working smoothly. Verified to work on DreamHost (of course :) and BlueHost. Mixed results on MediaTemple (MySQL doesn’t meet requirements for some people).

Enjoy! The Installer!

Your web installers are a piece of genius – bringing laconica to the masses! Thank you! I look forward to the next version.

Sorry about the support question – the install went fine – no error messages at the start – but it won’t authenticate with other apps, such as twitterfeed or thwirl. Would this take a lot of fixing?

I’m honestly not sure what the cause of the problem is, I’d like to help with the fix though! I need some information:

    What host are you using?
    Any config changes you’ve made?
What steps can I take to duplicate it?

Let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Feel free to contact me at juanjose.galvez@gmail.com

Great job on this… It installed, but Laconica returned these sets of errors:

open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/etc/laconica/laconica.php) is not within the allowed path(s):

(i’ll spare you the rest, but it’s mostly this error being repeated)

FYI, since the date of this post and just 2 days ago, Laconica pushed out version 7.2.1, and your installer grabs 7.1 – perhaps you’re aware and are updating the installer as we speak. I overwrote/synched the files and can begin customizing it.

Also, a request: add a Laconica Installer tab (page) for your readers, with step-by-step instructions. Laconi.ca has surprisingly user-unfriendly instructions for such a deservedly useful tool, and I’m sure that you’d get additional traffic and even perhaps extra income for installation services. Just a thought. Enjoy your tequila.

I’m actually having to make a bit bigger change this time around. It looks like the newest version actually has it’s own web-based installer and I hate competing with the official thing. So basically what I’m going to end up doing is switching my installer framework over for this app into triggering the new web based installer instead.

Or just discontinue it for laconica altogether and continue adding other apps to it. I’m not entirely sure yet.

As for your request, I think that’s a great idea and I’ll get to work on it the first change I get! It’ll be good to boost the traffic here a bit and get people the help they want with Laconica, which really is a great app and I hope catches some more attention and usage.

    Thanks for the tequila!

@John Can you share what you did to use the installer with the new version, 7.2.1 The installer worked great but it is the older version (7.1).

@juanjose Thank you for putting this together, it’s amazing to be able to have a microblog up and running in a matter of minutes!
